Past Event Overview
The ASA’s flagship event, the Calcutta Luncheon — proudly sponsored by Ligentia — was held at the end of October and was a huge success! This event was the perfect way to bring teams and customers together for a great day focused on networking and relaxed entertainment. The refreshed format and new features included well-known sports commentator and racing expert Nigel Carmody as MC, the day also featured short-form discussion with several racing identities. Comedian Ben Lomas provided the laughs with his laid-back style and hilarious observations on everyday life. Attendees also had the chance to bid on the favourites for the 2022 Melbourne Cup.
Time: 12.30pm – 4.30pm
Location: River Room, Level 1 Crown Towers, 8 Whiteman St, Southbank
Speakers

Nigel Carmody
Host, Racing.com
Nigel’s affinity with and love of horse racing has seen him take on hosting duties for Seven’s Racing coverage and with the sport’s dedicated channel, Racing.com. Front and centre for major race meetings at iconic tracks including Flemington, Caulfield and The Valley, he has driven the conversation as a host on programs such as The Wrap, Spring Contenders and After The Last.

Ben Lomas
Comedian
Unlike most comedians, Ben grew up in a loving family however they were Dutch, making him honest and open about what he’s feeling as the Dutch are very blunt. Ben likes unpacking the difficult (trivial) things in life, working out why he’s not good at it, and finding unhelpful solutions.
Exclusive Melbourne Cup Panel
In an exciting addition to this year’s revamped Calcutta Luncheon, the ASA brought the best of Melbourne’s racing scene direct to members and guests. This unique, short-form panel session provided a peek behind the scenes of the race that stops a nation and gave you a real insight into what it’s like to ride, train and own some of the top horses we all know and love.
