Cartel Conduct:

What Is It, How To Identify It, And What To Do About It?

13th December 2022

Past Event Overview

Investigation and enforcement of cartel conduct is an enduring priority for the ACCC. Anti-competitive conduct in Australian industries costs agencies and taxpayers millions of dollars. This presentation from the ACCC to ASA members provided a toolkit to prevent cartel conduct from arising in the industry context, how to identify where it occurs, and what to do if a cartel arrangement is suspected.

Cartels are the most serious violations of competition law. They injure customers by raising prices and restricting supply, thus making goods and services completely unavailable to some purchasers and unnecessarily expensive for others. Every single Australian, directly or indirectly, is, was, or will be a consumer of goods or services and are potentially susceptible to cartel conduct without ever being aware of it.

The ACCC gave an informative and engaging presentation on Cartel conduct which gave attendees and their businesses the tools needed to identify collusion and know what to do if you suspect it.
